2 SIBLINGS DROWN IN HARWAN RESERVOIR

Srinagar, July 22: Two teenage siblings drowned in Harwan reservoir here on Sunday here.

Police said the deceased hailed from Lal Bazar locality here. They said the duo had gone for swimming in the water reservoir close to Dachigam National Park.

“The duo drowned around 1 pm at Sarband area of Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary,” said a police official. Later, bodies of the siblings were retrieved from the reservoir with the help of locals and police, he said.

The duo was identified as Abrar Altaf (18) and Irtiqab Altaf (16) of Umer Colony (B) Lal Bazar.

Meanwhile, locals blamed authorities for failing to set up any rescue system around the reservoir.

“This is a prohibited area. Authorities should have been vigilant considering large number of boys visits here for swimming. There is no system in place to prevent boys from swimming in the reservoir,” they said. 

Meanwhile, pall of gloom descended Lal Bazar locality after the news about the death of siblings reached there.
