2 timber smugglers held in Baramulla

Two timber smugglers, a non-local among them, were arrested and timber worth lakhs of rupees recovered from their possession last night in Baramulla, officials said on Monday.

The officials of local forest department said: “During a naka in Kandi forest range of Sopore, a lorry along with timber was seized. The illegal timber was being smuggled from Rampora Rajpora forests.”

   

They added two timber smugglers were also detained from the spot.

Range officer Kandi Range Sopore, Abdul Majeed, said they have seized illicit timber worth lakhs of rupees.

The smugglers were identified as Nisar Hussain of Thana Mandi Rajouri and non-local Ranjeet Singh from Jalandar Punjab.

Majeed said both the accused were later handed over to police.
