22 held in Kashmir jails granted bail through video-conferencing

Different subordinate courts in Kashmir have granted bail to 22 persons who were lodged in Srinagar Central Jail for different offences.

The courts having jurisdictions over Srinagar, Budgam andBaramulla accepted the applications and arguments from defence counsel andprosecution through virtual mode in view of COVID-19 threat.

   

Courts in Kashmir started hearing the cases throughvideo-conferencing as a measure to avoid assembly of people and prevent spreadof coronavirus infection.

The counsel for applicants and prosecution submitted theirarguments through WhatsApp. After hearing both the sides, the courts issued theorders and provided copies of orders to parties via virtual mode.

Advocate Mir NaveedGul, the legal aid counsel for jailinmates of Srinagar Central Jail said he submitted bail applications throughWhatsApp and e-mails before different courts of Srinagar, Budgam, Chadoora,Tanmarg and others, seeking bail for the different jail inmates.

“So far, 22 jail inmates lodged in Srinagar Central jailhave been granted bail by different courts,” he said.
