3 BSF men injured in PanthaChowk attack

Three Border Security Force (BSF) men were injured after militants attacked their vehicle at PanthaChowk, Srinagar on Monday evening.

A police spokesman said three BSF men sustained “minor injuries” after their vehicle bearing number WB-739998 was attacked near Zewan crossing at PanthaChowk in the evening. “The condition of all the three is stated as stable,” he said. 

   

Meanwhile, police said the area where the incident took place has been cordoned off and a manhunt launched to nab the attackers. BSF has a full-fledged camp in Zewan area of PanthaChowk. “The vehicle was on way back to the Zewan camp,” a police source said.

A police official said that massive frisking operation was launched in PanthaChowk and Zewan areas after the attack as bikers and private vehicles were asked to stop and show identity cards. Intensified frisking was going in the area till late evening, a witness said. 

Meanwhile, militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba claimed responsibility for the PanthaChowk attack. “In the attack five BSF men were killed and three others sustained injuries. After the attack militants managed to escape from the spot,” Lashkar spokesman Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi said in an e-mailed statement.
