3 Kashmiri students booked by UP police, deny charges

The three Kashmiri students of Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) have been booked for allegedly making controversial comments against the army in the wake of Pulwama attack last week.

The students have been booked by Izzatnagar police station after a complaint was filed by vice president, students union, Amit Sharma on Friday.

However, the Kashmiri students who have been booked contested the Police claims saying that they were falsely implicated in the case.

In a distressed email to Greater Kashmir the students said they didn’t make any statement against Indian army. “We have been falsely implicated and defamed for making derogatory remarks against the Indian army. We have clearly denied it in our written statement,” the students said.

The students alleged that the police were threatening “to send all Kashmiri students back to Valley within two days”.

“The security of Kashmiri students is in jeopardy. We are being mentally harassed and threatened here,” the students said.

The students appealed to the IVRI administration to ensure safety of Kashmiri students.

Meanwhile, an official at IVRI said these girls have allegedly “made some adverse and objectionable comments on a WhatsApp group inviting trouble for them.”

“After receiving complaint about it, the institution ordered a probe and the administration decided to block the scholarship of two students.

“It has been also reported that third students who was enrolled in master’s degree was absent from December last,” an official of the varsity said.

He however said the three girl students have actually shared the controversial comments of other students in the group. “But they have added their own comments with it,” the IVRI official said.

Post Pulwama attack, more than 20 students have been suspended from outside colleges and universities while as around two dozen students were beaten as well. Also, two Kashmiri professors were sacked by two outside J&K universities as well.

More than 3000 students studying in outside state colleges and universities have also fled from the universities after facing intimidations by mob.
