5 militants killed along LoC: Army

The army on Saturday said it foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Tanghdar area of Kupwara district, killing five militants who were trying to infiltrate during the early morning on Saturday. 

A defence spokesman said that the operation is still underway and efforts are on to kill other militants. “The alert troops on Saturday morning sighted a group of militants along the line of control in Tanghdar sector. As the militants were challenged, they opened fire triggering a gun battle in which five militants were killed. The operation is still underway and efforts are on to neutralise other militants if found in the area” said defence spokesman Rajesh Kalia.

   

The infiltration bid in Tanghdar has been reported after the International Border in Jammu witnessed flare up in cross border shelling during the last two weeks which resulted in the killing of 12 people including two minor children and two BSF soldiers and injuries to over 60 people in nine days. 

MILITATNTS FIRE AT ARMY CAMP

Militants on Saturday evening fired at an army camp in Khudwani village of Kulgam district, a police official said.

The official said militants fired towards the unit of 1 RR camped in SKAUST rice institute center. The army returned the fire. The exchange of fire continued for around 10 minutes after which militants fled from the spot, the police official said.

He said there was no causality reported. The area has been cordoned off. This is the second attack in the district on security installations following the announcement of ceasefire by New Delhi earlier this week.

On Friday militants had attacked an army camp in Nehama area of Kulgam, resulting in death of force’s sniffer dog.
