5 persons booked for poaching; 5 shotguns seized: Police

Five persons were booked and five 12 bore guns seized for poaching migratory birds in Ganderbal, Police said Tuesday.

Police said that these poachers had been involved in the killing of migratory birds in different areas of Ganderbal including the wetlands in the district.

   

An official said that the police teams from Police Station Kheer Bhawani and Police Post Shadipora conducted raids at different locations in Shalbugh and Paribal villages and recovered five 12 bore guns.

He said that a case under FIR No 11/21 under section 3/25 IA Act and FIR No 25/2021 under section 3/25 IA Act had been registered at Police Station Kheer Bhawani and Police Station Ganderbal and five persons had been booked.

The official said that earlier Police apprehended two poachers who were misusing their licensed weapons and causing huge loss by killing a considerable number of aquatic migratory birds.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, SSP Ganderbal Khalil Poswal warned of strict action against those who were illegally killing migratory birds, whether with licensed or unlicensed weapons.

He said that killing migratory birds not only threatens certain species but also leads to degradation of ecosystem and livelihood of locals.
