6 teachers in Ganderbal to face action for ‘forcing’ school closures

Ganderbal administration on Friday initiated action against six government teachers for allegedly forcing closure of schools in the district.

The SSA teachers in the district are on strike since 1 May. On Friday and Saturday all the primary and middle schools were closed by the teachers to protest government’s failure to “streamline the release of wages”.

   

Deputy commissioner Dr Piyush Singla in an order has asked the SSP Ganderbal to take strict action against the six teachers.

According to the order, “the school lockout call by the forum was without any prior notice and at certain places coercive method was used to lockdown the educational institutions.”

The order reads: “In the interest of administration and to avoid repetition of such incidents, it is desired that strict action shall be taken against them.”

Through the medium of this order SSP Ganderbal “is requested to take strict action under law against six teachers namely Farooq Ahmed Tantray (zone Tulmulla), Gul Muhammad Sofi (zone Ganderbal), Khursheed Ahmed Bajad (zone Hariganiwan), Muzaffar Ahmed Raina (zone Hariganiwan), Riyaz Ahmed Bhat (zone Tulmulla) and Shabir Ahmed Mir of zone Tulmulla who as per preliminary reports are involved in coercive lockdown of schools.”

The DC further asked the CEO Ganderbal to initiate departmental proceedings against the erring teachers.

Meanwhile, chairman ReT forum said that they had given prior information to the deputy commissioner Ganderbal and chief education officer Ganderbal regarding their school lockout programme.
