Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed 6375 cases of offences against property in past two years, the data compiled by Crime Branch reveals.
In 2016, 3106 cases of theft that include burglary, forest theft, motor vehicle theft and dacoity were reported.
And in 2017, 3269 cases were reported with burglary and motor vehicle theft on top of the list.
At least, 1364 cases of burglary were reported last year. The highest number of cases were reported from Srinagar (266), followed by Jammu (212), Budgam (117), Anantnag (107), Baramulla (75), Udhampur (58) and Kulgam (51).
Next on the list of crimes is Motor Vehicle (MV) theft. Over 922 cases of theft in this category have been registered by the Crime Branch.
District Jammu is on top in this category of theft with 316 cases, followed by Srinagar 265. Kathua has 43 cases, Anantnag 42 and Budgam 37.
Similarly, 295 cases of forest theft have been reported for the year 2017 with 61 cases reported from Sopore, 46 from Budgam, 31 Shopian, 27 Baramulla, and 22 Anantnag.
The cases of cattle theft are also in the list of offences. Over 14 cases of cattle theft have been reported from Anantnag, 13 from Kulgam, 12 from Samba, nine from Rajouri, eight from Jammu and four each from Baramulla and Budgam.
Also the Crime Branch has reported 58 cases of robbery – 23 from Srinagar, nine from Pulwama, seven from Sopore, and five each from Shopian and Kulgam.
Fourteen cases of wire theft have been reported by crime branch, two cases of cycle theft, two cases of dacoity, one case of idol theft and 512 cases categorized as ‘other thefts.’
