7 soldiers injured in Pulwama IED blast

At least seven army men were injured in an IED blast at Trichal village in Pulwama district on Thursday night, police said.

A police official said that around 9:50 pm militants triggered an IED planted under a bridge on Trichal-Lassipora road when an armoured vehicle (Casper) of 55 RR was crossing the bridge, causing injuries to as many as seven soldiers.

Soon after the blast, militants fired upon the vehicle, the official said, adding that forces also returned the fire. “Initial reports reveal that the vehicle has suffered extensive damage,” the official added.

The injured army men, according to the official, were immediately rushed to Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar.

A local resident told Greater Kashmir that they heard an earthshaking boom followed by constant firing, which continued for ten to fifteen minutes.

Meanwhile, militant outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a statement to a local news agency GNS, a JeM spokesman claimed: “Three army men were killed and seven others sustained injuries. Army’s mobile bunker vehicle was completely damaged in the blast.”

It’s in place to mention here that this is the fifth such attack in Kashmir since the beginning of this year.  Earlier on January 6, militants detonated an IED in north Kashmir’s Sopore town, killing four policemen including an Assistant Sub Inspector Police on the spot.
