7 youth arrested during night raids in Shopian

Seven youth were detained by government forces during a string of night raids in several villages of South Kashmir''s Shopian district.

Seven youth were detained by government forces during a string of night raids in several villages of South Kashmir's Shopian district.

A police official said that forces raided Kanjiuallar, Wangam, Sudershan Pora and Rakhpora villages of the district last night and picked up seven youth. While, the official said, one person identified as Abdul Rashid Thokar was later released, the six others were still in the custody of forces.

The local residents identified those arrested as Mehraj Tantray son of Mohammad Yousuf of Wangam Sudershan Pora, Afridi Hussain son of Gh. Qadir of Rakhpora, Mohsin Rashid Lone son of Ab Rashid Lone, Farooq Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Ayoub Bhat, Showkat Ahmad Thokar son of Abdul Khaliq Thokar and Azad Ahmad Itoo, residents of Kanjiuallar.

Although the district police chief Sandeep Kumar Choudary did not answer the phone calls from this reporter, a police official said that the arrested youth were being interrogated for their alleged role in stone pelting.
