85 J&K Colleges headless, 600 APs positions vacant

At least 85 Colleges are headless while as 600 positions of Assistant Professors are vacant in different educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir.

While the senior faculty members of the respective Colleges are looking after the positions of Principals, the students have been hit badly owing to growing number of vacant faculty positions in many Colleges.

An official said the adhocism in the Colleges has also badly hit functioning of the institutions without Principals as senior faculty members in charge remain indecisive and apprehensive on taking decisions on crucial matters.

During the past several months, the Secretary Higher Education convened several meetings with College Principals to set up career counseling cells besides announcing other academic oriented initiatives.

“But the initiatives in the Colleges without Principals in position remain a non-starter,” the official said.

Apart from 96 Degree Colleges which are functional in the state, the government recently announced to set up 102 new Colleges.

Secretary higher education department, Talat Parvez said all the vacancies will be filled before the commencement of new academic session.
