Abolishing SHG scheme anti youth: Hakeem Yaseen

Chairman Peoples Democratic Front Hakeem Yaseen on Wednesday criticized the government’s move to abolish the decision to reserve a ratio of construction projects for Self Help Groups (SHGs).

In a statement, Yaseen decried the decision to subsume engineering wings of various government departments into PWD and Jal Shakti department, adding the move will create a mess and confusion on the ground.

Yaseen said the decision to do away with the system in vougue to reserve a ratio of construction projects for unemployed engineers under the SHG was a farsighted decision aimed to provide jobs to unemployed engineering graduates.

“Its abolishing would usurp jobs and livelihood means of thousands of educated youth engaged in construction activities,” he said.

Yaseen urged the government to revoke its decisions about subsuming engineering departments and doing away the SHG scheme, adding these decisions were anti-youth and would bring development to a grinding halt.

He said the decision if not revoked immediately would make the prevailing unemployment problem in J&K further complicated and grim.
