In a bid to check illegal sand extraction, the district administration on Monday launched a drive along the banks of Mawer nallah here.
The drive was launched by a team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Handwara Muzaffar Ahmad Peer who visited various spots along the nallah and seized stone crushers, JCBs, tractors and other machinery deployed in carrying out illegal sand extraction.
Meanwhile, District Commissioner (DC) Kupwara Khalid Jehangir has asked officials to remain vigilant and not allow any illegal activities along the water bodies in the district.
