Advisor Ganai seeks adequate NEET exam centres in Kashmir

The governor administration has requested the union ministry of human resource development for setting up sufficient exam centres in Kashmir for students appearing in National Entrance Eligibility Test.

The NEET exam is scheduled to be held May 5.

   

The move comes in wake of the persistent demand by aspirantsin Kashmir to have their exam centres for all of them in the valley.

Advisor to J&K Governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai wrote aletter to secretary department of school education and literacy in MHRD RinaRay regarding the allotment of NEET exam centre for Valley students withinKashmir.

“Scores of students from Kashmir have represented thatinadequate number of examination centres have been allotted in the Valley forthe upcoming NEET. Kindly intervene in the matter to set-up adequate number ofNEET examination centres for Kashmir-based students at Srinagar,” reads theletter.

Adequate exam centres in Srinagar for NEET aspirants willrelieve students from travelling to other states for appearing in thisprestigious national level exam.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) which conducts the testhas setup exam centres of 40 percent valley students in other states whichevoked resentment from the aspirants and their parents.

The undergraduate NEET 2019 is an offline exam and can beconducted in any of the colleges in Srinagar and other districts.

“The Jammu-Srinagar highway which is the only link betweenSrinagar and Jammu is quite unreliable at this point of time. There is also atwo-day per week restriction on the highway which has made the travel on thisroad all the more difficult,” Ganai’s letter reads.

The intervention of the governor administration has beenhailed by the students who said the MHRD should consider the issue and allotmore centres in Kashmir.

“MHRD should take cognizance of the government interventionand shift our exam centres to Kashmir. We can’t afford to travel to outsidestates for appearing in the exam,” said Arsalan Nabi, an aspirant from Kunzerwhose exam centre has been allotted in Delhi.

Parents of the aspirants are also worried to send their kidsalone to outside states for appearing in the exam.

“My parents are not allowing me to go alone to appear in theexam in outside states. They want to accompany me to Chandigarh which will bean additional expenditure for my family,” said Abu Zar Reyaz from Rafiabadwhose exam centre has been allotted in the north Indian city.
