Advisor Kumar directs strong law enforcement for tackling drug menace

To deal with the menace of drug abuse, Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar on Wednesday stressed on strong law enforcement against the people involved in the business of drugs.

According to a statement, the Advisor, while chairing a meetingof various departments and organisation for the successful implementation ofDrug De-addiction Policy, directed Police, Excise and other law enforcingagencies to ensure that anyone involved in the drug business be dealt strongly.

   

“Identified places with alarming signs must be prioritizedin terms of strong vigil and action needs to be followed by booking of drugpeddlers and for which intelligence wings should also be strengthened,” theadvisor said, according the statement.

The meeting discussed work done by various field departmentsand action plan that is to be adopted by all.

In the meeting it was also decided that to analyze the workdone by all, a small report should be prepared and submitted in every week byevery department through a nodal officer so that necessary additions can bemade and ground situation be ascertained.

To apprise the meeting about the main components of the Drugde-addiction policy and the action taken by the stakeholders since the adoptionof the policy in the state, a detailed presentation was made by Prof ArshadHussain, Psychiatrist working in GMC Srinagar.

In his presentation, he highlighted the activities of allthe field departments and other stakeholders separately who are involved in theprocess of freeing the state from drug menace. The actions in form of differentactivities being undertaken by the departments were discussed in detail and itwas decided that focus should be on to generate as much as awareness amongpeople especially the youth of the state.

Different kind of training programmes must be initiatedinvolving volunteers from every department, police and other forces who will bemade master trainers to further train people at various levels, the meetingdecided.

On the occasion it was felt that a dedicated HELPLINE shouldalso be created for which Health department will work out the modalities andwould place professionals to help the addicts/parents or anyone else needs anyinformation on the issue.
