After facing defeat in LS polls, Congress to hold conventions across J&K

After its defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has decided to hold conventions in all the districts of Kashmir in the coming days for strengthening the party.

Senior functionaries and other members of the PCC in a recently held meeting unanimously decided to hold party conventions in all the districts of Kashmir. Similar conventions shall also be held in Jammu province as well.

“Holding of conventions and strengthening the party was discussed and decided in a recently held meeting,” a senior Congress leader told Greater Kashmir.

“We also held detailed discussions over the organization affairs and activities in J&K, emphasizing the leadership to further strengthen the party at the grassroots level.”

The senior leader said that party is fully capable to overcome the challenges and is strong enough to defeat the forces “inimical to peace and stability” in State.

He said the party will do all efforts to strengthen the secularism and unity in state and will continue to unite the people.

In recently Lok Sabha elections, the National Conference (NC), staged a comeback in the Lok Sabha from Kashmir by completely uprooting the JKPCC and Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP, which failed to retain even a single seat in the state.

Of the six Lok Sabha seats in the state, the NC and the BJP won three seats each.

The NC swept all the three seats in the Kashmir valley where threats of tinkering with the Articles 370 and 35A by the BJP had become a major electoral issue.

The Congress, which contested on five seats, drew a blank. The BJP retained three seats, Jammu, Udhampur and Ladakh, which it had won in the 2014 elections. However, all the three candidates of the party in the Kashmir valley forfeited their security deposit.
