Ahead of LS results, Mehbooba to chair party meeting today

Ahead of the results for Lok Sabha elections next week, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has summoned party leader and members for a meeting at her residence here on Sunday.

A source said the meeting would start at 11 am and would beattended by former MLAs and ex-ministers, apart from constituency in-chargesand district presidents.

Party patron Muzaffar Hussain Baig who was not seen activeduring election campaigning, owing to health issues, is also likely to attendthe meeting.

A party member said the meeting had been initially scheduledafter the election results. “But we were suddenly communicated to attend thetomorrow’s meeting. That is all I know,” the member said.

However he said the party leadership hasn’t been happy withthe performance of some of the members during the recently concluded Lok Sabhaelections in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting also assumes significance in wake of the mediareports that Mehbooba who contested the election from Anantnag seat was in fortough competition from rival parties, Congress and National Conference.

The competition became tougher for the PDP chief, who haswon all six elections of her over two-decade career, owing to boycott in theAssembly segments of Anantnag constituency which have remained a stronghold of the party over the years. The outcome of the result, many believe, willhave a bearing on the fate of the party which was hit by rebellion earlier thisyear, as well as party’s prospects in the long overdue Assembly elections inthe state.
