Ahead of RS polls, Azad meets Hakim, Rashid in Srinagar

Both Hakim and Rashid confirmed that they met Azad. However, they didn’t reveal what transpired during their meetings with Azad.

With crucial RajyaSabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir just a few days away, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister GhulamNabi Azad Tuesday met MLAs Hakim Mohammad Yasin and Engineer Rashid to garner support for him.

Sources said Azad met both Hakim and Rashid separately and sought their support for the RajyaSabha polls scheduled on Saturday.

Both Hakim and Rashid confirmed that they met Azad. However, they didn’t reveal what transpired during their meetings with Azad.

“Azad sahib is my friend and friends don’t need an occasion to visit each other,” Hakim Yasin said.

When asked whether he will vote for Azad or not, he evaded direct answer saying, “I will take a call from my conscience and vote accordingly.”

Er Rashid while confirming his meeting with Azad said, “I won’t take any decision in haste.”

Azad, who is Leader of Opposition in RajyaSabha, is seeking re-election for the Upper House of the Parliament. His chances of making it to the RajyaSabha lie in the hands of Hakim, Rashid and CPI (M) MLA Mohammad YosufTarigami. While National Conference has already announced that its 15 MLAs will vote for Azad, the votes of three ‘Third Front’ MLAs will be crucial for Azad’s victory.

Tarigami has already made it clear that he will vote for Azad to keep ‘communal’ BJP at bay. KNS
