Altaf Bukhari calls on Governor

Former finance minister Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari on Friday evening called on Governor, Satya Pal Malik at Rajbhavan here on Saturday, a statement said.

It said that Bukhari brought various issues of publicimportance into the notice of the Governor. The former minister also discussedabout the progress on various Central and State Government developmentalschemes under implementation in Srinagar city especially in Amirakadalconstituency and pleaded for expediting their early completion.

   

Emphasizing on the need of construction of grade separatorsat Sanat Nagar, Nowgam and Bemina crossings, Bukhari urged the governor tofacilitate the approval and release of requisite funds so that the work onthese projects is started at an earliest. He also highlighted the importance ofthese projects in minimizing the accidents and decongestion of traffic at thesejunctions.

The former minister demanded macadamization in Gangbugh areaof Amirakadal where the major project of drainage has been already completedduring the last elected government. Similarly, he also brought the importanceof establishing an Irrigation pump station in view of frequently interruptedirrigation water supply for around 115 acre of paddy and other agriculture landin Rawalpora and its adjoining areas.

Bukhari also demanded establishment of government PrimaryHealth Center and government primary school at Mehjoor Nagar at alreadyidentified chunk of government land.

He said a huge population in this ward is suffering for wantof these facilities as both the institutions are currently being run in rentedrooms with no standard facilities available therein.  He also invited the attention of the Governortowards establishment of fire service station at the same location to cater toany kind of eventuality.

Regarding the condition of public parks, Bukhari urged theGovernor to direct the floriculture and tourism departments to focus ofmaintenance of the existing parks in entire Srinagar especially in Amirakadalconstituency besides installing of mast head lights and the recreationalfacilities for children and the old age people. 

The former minister also pleaded for revamping of drainageat Gulshan Nagar Nowgam where the ERA had constructed the drainage long backwithout following the proper alignment and other specifications. Bukhari also highlighted the severe hardshipsbeing faced by the people on account skyrocketing prices of essentialcommodities that too in the holy month of Ramadhan. He also brought into thenotice of the Governor the difficulties being faced due to lack of basicamenities especially in Srinagar city including frequent curtailment ofelectricity, shortage of potable water, availability of kerosene and sugarparticularly in economically downtrodden areas like Mehjoor Nagar, Natipora,Rawalpora, Chinarbagh, Kursoo and Ikhrajpora. The Governor assured the former minister of all cooperation from hisadministration in mitigating the sufferings of people.
