Amarnath yatra witnesses sharp dip

The Amarnath yatra saw a steady dip on Sunday with 1900 yatris heading towards holy cave from Baltal base camp here, officials said.

They said number of yatris paying obeisance at the holy cave is reducing as yatra is inching towards its culmination.

They added another batch of 1179 yatris is on its way to valley from Jammu.

“Yatris have left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in an escorted convoy of 62 vehicles. Of these 797 yatris are heading to Pahalgam base camp, while 380 will take their pilgrimage from Baltal,” said an official deployed for yatra. Sources added that enthusiasm among yatris is also vanishing owing to melting of holy ice stalagmite inside Amarnath cave.

In the first 25 days of yatra over 2 lakh yatris have paid their obeisance at the holy cave. The 60-day long yatra which began on June 28 will culminate on August 26.
