A partial shutdown was observed in Pulwama district against the arrest of scores of youth by government forces during nocturnal raids on Monday.

A police official said that a joint team led by Jammu and Kashmir police, army's Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Forces conducted searches and arrested at least 14 youth for their alleged role in stone pelting. Confirming the arrests, SP Pulwama, Mohammad Aslam Choudhary said that the youth were detained for their suspected involvement in different grenade attacks and stone pelting incidents in the district.

Many shops and business establishments remained partially closed while the traffic plied on the roads.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Anantnag and Kulgam districts. While Anantnag remained closed to mark the 24th death anniversary of prominent religious leader Qazi Nisar, Kulgam observed a shutdown in protest against the civilian killing on Monday. In both the districts, all the shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed while traffic was largely off the roads.
