Anti-encroachment drive continues in Shopian

The district administration continued with its crackdown on encroachers in Narpora and Zainpora areas of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.

An official said that district administration as part of itsmassive anti-encraochment drive removed various illegal structures inNarpora  area, some six kilometers fromShopian town.

   

He said that many tin shanties were dismantled during thedrive while as dozens of kanals of state land was retrieved from theencroachers in the area.

“Various Russian poplar trees grown on the state landwere also hacked down by the administration,” added the official.

He said that many illegal structures were also brought downin Zainapora sub-division of the district.

The drive, according to the official, will continue till allthe illegal structures were removed from the district.

Giving details, Additional Deputy Commissioner ShabirHussain Bhat told Greater Kashmir that around 60 kanals of Kahcharai land wasretrieved from encroachers under Khasra number 185 in Narpora while a number ofhutments erected on the state land were brought down.

“The eviction drive has concluded in Narpora”,Bhat said, adding that it would continue in other parts of the district.

Many residents welcomed the drive.

“Even the public parks and river bunds have beenencroached in the Shopian town,” said a group of residents.

They said that administration should extend the drive to thetown as well.
