Armed Police backbone of J&K Police: DGP

Director General of Police Dilbag Singh today visited Armed Police Headquarters (APHQ) at Karan Nagar here.

He was received by the ADGP (Armed) J&K S J M Gillaniand other officers of the Armed Police Headquarters.

   

According to a statement, DGP chaired a meeting which wasattended by senior police officers and reviewed the functioning of the ArmedPolice wing. The meeting which was attended by ADGP CID, J&K Dr. B.Srinivas, ADGP (Armed) S.J.M. Gillani, ADGP Law & Order/Security  Munir Ahmad Khan, IGP Armed Kashmir  Vijay Kumar, IGP (Pers.) PHQ J.P. Singh andIGP Kashmir  S.P. Pani.

“Armed Police is the backbone of the J&K Policewith having highest number of personnel on its roll who are doing their dutiesat multiple places and are entrusted with multiple tasks,” the DGP said.

“The DGP complimented Armed Police for handling law andorder, security and other multifarious jobs in the State and currently havinghuge deployment in AmarnathYatra including the Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs),and also praised the role of Armed Police in counter insurgency grid,”police spokesperson said in statement.

“The DGP while complementing the role of MRTs in rescuinghundreds of the yatries said that Governor Satya Pal Malik and Advisors of theGovernor have hailed the role of these MRTs. Their role has been highlighted bythe national media and Yatris,” he added

“The DGP also expressed his satisfaction for safe andsmooth conduct of Yatra from both sides for which Armed Police is deployedalongwith district police of South Kashmir and Central Kashmir. The DGP alsounderlined the Armed Police for making significant contribution during thePanchayat, Urban Local Bodies and Parliamentary elections. During his addressthe DGP advised the officers to focus on skill development of the policepersonnel to further improve their efficiency. The DGP also impressed uponregular welfare measures for the officers/jawans,” the statement said.

Congratulating the Armed Police personnel SgCt. Nazir Ahmadand SgCt. Falil Singh for scaling the Mount Everest and also other personnelwho have brought laurels to the Police by winning medals, the DGP impressedthat more and more attention must be given to the Central Sports teams.

ADGP (Armed) J&K S.J.M Gillani briefed the DGP regardingfunctioning and deployment of the different battalions of the Armed Police. Heprojected the requirements and plans with regard to the Armed battalions to whichthe DGP said that they would be sympathetically looked into. ADGP (Armed)J&K during his briefing highlighted that the training, welfare andequipment needs of the force will be taken care of. The ADGP also put forthcertain requirements with regard to the body gears of the law and orderpersonnel for their day to day duties.
