People’s Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone Thursday expressed profound grief over the death of Arshad Ahmad of Pattan, who was injured in police action while protesting against the alleged rape of a 3-year-old Bandipora girl.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, Sajad in astatement said that Arshad was “unambiguously a victim of police brutality”.
He said the “disproportionate use of force” must not betolerated and “officers responsible for the killing” should be heldaccountable.
“Lack ofaccountability in previous such instances has emboldened the police to continueusing excessive force for crowd control. Only stringent action may act asdeterrent for others,” he said.
“We appeal to the Governor to seek answers and punish theguilty.”
