At 12%, J&K’s spending on education probably highest in India: LG Sinha

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday said it was spending 12 percent of its budget on the education sector, which was “probably the highest among states and union territories across India”.

This was stated by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha while speaking at the maiden convocation of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in his capacity as the varsity’s Chancellor.

“I want to ensure the (IUST) administration that the J&K administration is spending 12 percent of its budget on education, which is probably the highest among states and UTs across India,” LG Sinha said.

The LG further assured that “there will be no shortage of money not only for IUST, but with regard to all (educational) institutions in the union territory”.

As for the IUST in particular, the LG emphasized on the continuous evaluation of departments saying it was imperative for the administration to inculcate individual roles of respective departments at the varsity.

“As a leader, for technical institutions like IUST, to set up state of the art infrastructure should be our priority, ” LG Sinha added.
