ATM fraudster held with Rs 1.10 lakh

Poonch Police on Saturday claimed it arrested an ATM fraudster in Mendhar area and recovered Rs 1.10 lakh from his possession.

A police spokesman said that a woman, Balquees Begum wife of Mushtaq Ahmed of Lanjiote Balakote filed a written complaint with Mendhar police and claimed that on August 17, while she was in the town, she approached a unidentified youth for helping her withdraw the cash from the machine.

   

The police official quoting the complaint said that the youth accordingly asked the woman for the password and after some time, handed her back an ATM card telling the later that her account was blocked.

He said that after some days, when the woman checked her account, she found Rs 1.10 lakh withdrawn from her account. The woman then obtained the CCTV footage of the ATM and found the same boy withdrawing cash from her account, the police officer said quoting the complainant.

Saturday, after police complaint was lodged by complainant, police team headed by SHO Mendhar Muhammad Amin under the supervision of SDPO Mendhar Reyaz Tantray raided a location and nabbed the accused.   

During questioning, the accused confessed his crime and later the amount was also recovered from his home.

Mendhar police have registered a case FIR number 152/2018 under section 420 of RPC.
