Awareness campaign on train: Health Dept uses novel way on World TB Day

The Department of Health Services held a public awareness campaign on tuberculosis in a novel way through a train journey.

The theme of this year’sWorld TB day was “IT’S TIME TO END TB” and today’s event was organized byState TB cell Kashmir in collaboration with District Tuberculosis Officers ofall Districts of Kashmir Division.

   

“The program is aimed atdisseminating the information to each and every citizen through the medium ofthe train so as to ensure maximum involvement,” said Director Health ServicesKashmir Dr Kunzes Dolma.

She termed the idea of RevisedNational Tuberculosis Control Program (RNTCP) using the train as the medium ashighly innovative.

“We are committed to achieving the goal of ending TB,” DrDolma said.

The passengers on board from Qazigund to Baramulla viaAnantnag, Pulwama, Srinagar, Budgam and Pattan were sensitized about thesymptoms, diagnosis, treatment of this disease and the facilities provided bythe Government free of cost.

The rally finally concludedat Baramulla Railway Station.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag KhalidJehangir who was the Chief Guest of the function appreciated the idea oforganizing this event in an innovative manner.

Arally was also taken out by school children at Qazigund railway station whichwas addressed by various experts.

“This was the uniqueopportunity for awareness and advocacy for RNTCP. We want more and more peopleto avail the facilities of government initiatives aimed at eradicating TB,”said State TB officer, Dr Rehana Kausar.

The passengers on board from Qazigund also appreciated thismove.

“This is a very good step of reaching out to people and thedepartment of health should not stop here but rather carry this forward,” saidone of the passengers, Muzamil Rashid.

Various senior divisionalas well as district level officers of the Health Department including RegionalDirector Health & Family Welfare, Chief Medical Officers, Deputy Director,State Tuberculosis Officer, Divisional Nutritional Officer Kashmir and DistrictTuberculosis Officers also participated.
