AWWA celebrates 52nd anniversary at Udhampur

The Army Wives Welfare Organisation (AWWA), Northern Command, celebrated its 52nd anniversary at Udhampur on Thursday.

Raised in 1966, AWWA has evolved as one of the largest registered NGOs of the country. “The organisation has been rendering yeomen service in the fields of social obligations, women empowerment and skill building,” PRO defence in a handout here said.

   

On the occasion, a central function at Udhampur Military station was organised. The celebrations were also concurrently held at other family stations in the command. 

Theme of the celebration was ’empowerment of differently abled’.

“True to its motto ‘Asha, Wishwas, Astha’ AWWA has been resolute in its commitment towards empowerment of differently abled members of its fraternity,” the statement said. 

On this occasion a documentary on empowerment of the differently-abled was specially screened.

The “veer Naris” were given special focus during the above celebrations and were also felicitated. A medical camp was also organised with the help of Command Hospital. The regional president conferred awards to members for their outstanding contributions to the organisation during the year.

In her message to the members, Kalpana Singh Dhatt, regional  president AWWA exhorted the fraternity to contribute and support nation building and undertake activities that not only enable the organisation to achieve its goals but also impact positively on society and nation at large.
