The Department of Social Forestry under the supervision of DFO, Budgam, Tanveer Ahmad Parray kick-started the drive to axe of female poplar trees on, Monday.
The drive started from the DC office campus and was organized under the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, Tariq Hussain Ganai, in pursuance of the J&K High court directions.
On the occasion Range Officer, Maqsood Ahmad and Trade Union President, Abdul Majeed Parray were also present.
The DFO said female poplars producing pollens has been considered hazardous for human health by the health experts and in pursuance of the Court directions the department has started axing of these trees.
He said support and cooperation from people was needed to take the drive to its logical end.
