‘BACK TO VILLAGE’ PROGRAM |‘Authorities assured early redressal of grievances…let’s see will they deliver’

A meandering road across the gleaming Ranbi Aara stream leads to quaint Moshwara village. Tucked away among apple orchards and towering pine trees the non-descript village was abuzz with the activity.

Many local residents since morning were making a beeline fora local government run middle school to meet a team of officers who had alreadyarrived there.

   

The program was part of the government’s massiveadministrative outreach program, “Back to Village” under which around4483 officials are staying with people across all Panchayats of the State.

In restive Shopian, since the initiation of the program onJune 20 the officers have been visiting different Panchayat Halqas andlistening to grievance confronting general masses.

“As part of the program we sit among people, listen totheir grievances and get feedback from them” said Deputy Commissioner,Shopian Dr Owais Ahmed.

Mohammad Sikander Shah, a resident of Moshwara said thatthey informed the team of officers about the problems the area was reelingunder for past many years.

“They gave us assurances for early redressal of thegrievances”, Shah said, adding the Deputy Commissioner announceddevelopment of public park and play field, on the spot.

Another resident said non-availability of safe drinkingwater, appalling condition of roads and construction of a bund to a streamgurgling through the area were some of the main issues they discussed with theteam.

In Imamsahab Panchayat segement where officials visited,local residents also brought a wide range of issues to their notice.

“The area is bereft of safe drinking water so we tookup the issue with them. We also discussed various problems related tohorticulture sector with the visiting officers,” said Abdul Basit Malik, alocal resident.

Similarly, people in Wuyan village provided officialsfeedback about many developmental works in the area.

“We were also provided information about various governmentschemes,” said a group of Wuyan residents.

District Panchayat Officer, Shopian Malik Tariq said theauthorities under the program visited almost all 98 Panchayat segments in thearea and listened to grievances of people.

However, most of the residents in the district said that itwas their duty to apprise the authorities about their problems.

“Now let us see if they deliver,” they added.
