Bandipora Municipal Councillors move no-confidence motion against president

Councillors of municipal committee Bandipora on Saturday moved a no-confidence motion against the incumbent municipal president before Deputy Commissioner Bandipora for his “non-satisfactory performance.”

An official said that 11 councillors of municipal committeeBandipora moved the no-confidence motion against Khursheed Ahmad Ganai, who isthe incumbent president.

   

Khursheed was supported by the Congress party in themunicipal committee elections that were held last year. Khursheed wasunanimously elected as president MC Bandipora after the support of around 11Congress councillors.

Bandipora MC has a total number of 17 wards and Congress hadwon 13 wards during the election, 2 were won by BJP and 2 by independentcandidates who later pledged their support to the Congress party.

Khursheed is the younger brother of former legislator andgeneral secretary JKPCC, Usman Majid, a militant-turned-governmentgunman-turned politician.

“On 24 May 2019 an important meeting of electedcouncilors of Municipal Committee Bandipora chaired by deputy presidentBasharat Hussain Najar was held and the majority of councilors attended hemeeting,” reads the no-confidence application moved by the councilors.

The application further reads that in the meeting theperformance and role of the president MC Bandipora were reviewed that is notsatisfactory in which a no-confidence resolution was passed against the currentpresident Khursheed Ahmad Ganai and it was decided to withdraw the support fromhim.

“With consensus one-third of the majority of councilorshave unanimously nominated Basharat Hussain Najar as new president MC Bandiporawhile Ishfaq Majeed was nominated as deputy president,” reads the application.

Councilors from Ward No. 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 09, 10, 15,16 and 17 have moved the no-confidence motion against the incumbent president.

They have also forwarded the application to Governor Jammuand Kashmir, Chief Secretary, Commissioner Secretary Urban Local Bodies, Chiefelectoral officer Jammu and Kashmir, Director Local Bodies Kashmir andExecutive Officer MC Bandipora.

Executive Officer Bandipora, Syed Nayeem Rizvi confirmedthat a no-confidence motion has been moved against the incumbent president by11 councilors.
