Councillors of municipal committee Bandipora on Saturday moved a no-confidence motion against the incumbent municipal president before Deputy Commissioner Bandipora for his “non-satisfactory performance.”
An official said that 11 councillors of municipal committee Bandipora moved the no-confidence motion against Khursheed Ahmad Ganai, who is the incumbent president.
Khursheed was supported by the Congress party in the municipal committee elections that were held last year. Khursheed was unanimously elected as president MC Bandipora after the support of around 11 Congress councillors.
Bandipora MC has a total number of 17 wards and Congress had won 13 wards during the election, 2 were won by BJP and 2 by independent candidates who later pledged their support to the Congress party.
Khursheed is the younger brother of former legislator and general secretary JKPCC, Usman Majid, a militant-turned-government gunman-turned politician.
“On 24 May 2019 an important meeting of elected councilors of Municipal Committee Bandipora chaired by deputy president Basharat Hussain Najar was held and the majority of councilors attended he meeting,” reads the no-confidence application moved by the councilors.
The application further reads that in the meeting the performance and role of the president MC Bandipora were reviewed that is not satisfactory in which a no-confidence resolution was passed against the current president Khursheed Ahmad Ganai and it was decided to withdraw the support from him.
“With consensus one-third of the majority of councilors have unanimously nominated Basharat Hussain Najar as new president MC Bandipora while Ishfaq Majeed was nominated as deputy president,” reads the application.
Councilors from Ward No. 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 09, 10, 15, 16 and 17 have moved the no-confidence motion against the incumbent president.
They have also forwarded the application to Governor Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Secretary, Commissioner Secretary Urban Local Bodies, Chief electoral officer Jammu and Kashmir, Director Local Bodies Kashmir and Executive Officer MC Bandipora.
Executive Officer Bandipora, Syed Nayeem Rizvi confirmed that a no-confidence motion has been moved against the incumbent president by 11 councilors.
