Sumbal rape: Students hold protest in Bandipora, Ganderbal

Students of government girls higher secondary schoolBandipora on Monday took out a protest rally against the rape of a minor girlin Sumbal on May 08.

Witnesses said that the students marched from Plan Bandiporato Nowpora chowk, raising slogans to demand exemplary punishment to theaccused.

   

The protestors later dispersed off peacefully near NowporaChowk.

The protests were also held in Sumbal main chowk against therape incident.

Witnesses said that the Traders Federation Sumbal and peoplefrom several localities of Sumbal including Nowgam, Inderkoot, Najin, Gadkhudand Tularzoo assembled in Sumbal and held a protest.

The protesters raised slogans, demanding justice for therape victim and capital punishment to the guilty.

Meanwhile, DIG North Kashmir Mohd. Sulieman Choudhary visited Sumbal and is holding a meeting with the village elders, asking them to maintain calm.

The students of the central university of Kashmir andgovernment degree Ganderbal also took out a peaceful protest march against therape incident.

The students demanded stringent punishment to the rapist.

Meanwhile, all shops and business establishments remainedclosed in Beehama, Duderhama and Qamaria chowk while thin public transport waswitnessed in the entire district.
