Bandipora rape: Tarigami demands exemplary punishment to culprit, warns against divisive elements

Demanding exemplary punishment to the guilty, CPI (M) leaderand former legislator Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami on Tuesday said the alleged rapeof a 3-year-old girl in Sumbal area of Bandipora district is most shameful actand against the human values.

“The perpetrator of this heinous crime, irrespective ofwhich religion, sect or community he belongs to, must be given exemplarypunishment,” he said, in a statement.

“A devil is a devil and he has no religion or sect. Lastyear, in Kathua when an 8-year-old nomad girl was gangraped and brutallymurdered, a criminal act was communalised. Whole of the country condemned thatdevilish act.”

Tarigami said some vested interests were trying to divideour ranks and trying to take advantage of Sumbal rape incident. “We must guardagainst such people. We appeal to people to protest peacefully and not resortto any type of violence,” he said.

“The victim is the daughter of Jammu and Kashmir and all ofus must put our head down in shame.  Itis a beastly act and merits serious social introspection.”
