Basic Horticulture Trainees stage protest

The Basic Horticulture Trainees (BHT) from SKAUST-K today staged protest against the administration for the revocation of the posts for which they were earlier eligible.

Scores of BHT aspirants from the Shalimar campus of SKUAST assembled at Press Enclave demanding creation of posts for them.

“We pursued the Basic Horticulture Trainee (BHT) course because we were aware that we will be eligible for the posts of technicians. We have been fighting for the posts since 2014. Last year, the government advertised 211 posts for which only BHT aspirants were eligible,” Javed Ahmad, one of the protestors said.

‘After constant protest of the degree holders for the last few days, authorities have now withdrawn those 211 posts keeping in consideration the demands of those BSc, MSc and PhD holders.’

“If the graduates were not eligible for the recently advertised Class IV posts and those posts were not withdrawn, then why did the government revoke the previous order?,” asked one of the protestors.

The aspirants further said that these degree holders are eligible for gazetted and other high rank posts.

They appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene into the matter.

Additional Secretary, Horticulture Department said that “there will be no disparity with any eligible aspirant.” “Whatever will be the decision, it will be in favor of those who deserve it and shall be notified soon,” he said.
