Beating of teachers, students | Women’s Commission takes cognizance of GK report

The J&K State Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights has sought a report into the thrashing of teachers and students of a private school.

The development comes two days after Greater Kashmir reportedthat the teachers and students of Hanfia Model Higher Secondary School (HMHSS),Kreeri in Baramulla were Saturday evening thrashed by local youth at Raiyaararea of Budgam district.

   

The school had gone for a picnic to Doodpathri area ofBudgam district.

The Chairperson of the Commission Vasundhara P Masoodi hastaken suo moto cognizance of the report and sought the latest status in thematter within five days.

“Considering the gravity of the matter, it is requested tofurnish the latest status in the matter within five days,” reads a letteraddressed to SSP Budgam district.

On Saturday, when the school was returning from picnic, oneof the school buses got stuck on road at Reyaar following which studentsincluding girls came out of bus to purchase some eatables.

“But a group of youth tried to capture their video andphotographs which was objected by the school staff. Youth got furious andthrashed the school teacher for raising objections,” a school teacher had toldGreater Kashmir.

In the attack, the physical education teacher of the school,Shiekh Irfan, sustained serious head injuries and is undergoing treatment atSKIMS Soura.

Already the Budgam Police has registered an FIR into theincident and arrested four accused. “We have recorded the statement of injuredteacher and further investigations will follow,” a police official said.

The Commission has also taken note of another incident inRamban district where a teenage girl reportedly set herself ablaze at her homeunder mysterious circumstances last Thursday. The girl later succumbed to herburn injuries at the hospital. Police have been asked to submit a report infive days.
