Responding to the recent statement of senior PDP leader and member parliament, Muzaffar Hussein Beigh on the settlement of West Pakistan Refugees, Hurriyat Conference (M) Monday said such views should be seen in the context of giving impetus to the attempts of government of India "which it is making to change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir."
In a statement, Hurriyat (M) spokesman said; "By making such statement, Beigh was trying to become more loyal than the king just for the sake of lust of power. Beigh deliberately forgot that the non-state subjects could not be settled owing to the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. He said Beigh's statement had no political, legal or moral standing."
"Though the settlement of refugees is a humanitarian issue but it cannot be done at the expense of the demographic integrity and the overall interests of the state. If Beigh was too concerned about the status of these refugees, he should have asked GOI to settle them outside the state," he said.
The spokesman said Hurriyat (M) would fully resist any effort aimed to alter the demography and special status of J&K under the garb of rehabilitation of refugees. "It was important to read Beigh's statement in the context of furthering the agenda of BJP and other extremist forces of India. If such a plan, aimed to change special status of Kashmir by altering the demographics is executed, it would have serious consequences on the future of the state," he said.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) spokesman paid glorious tributes to Wamiq Farooq on his fifth anniversary. He said that the killers of Wamiq were still at large and the government has done nothing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
