BHADARWAH KILLING|Omar seeks time-bound probe

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah Thursday condemned the killing of Naeem Ahmad Shah allegedly by cow vigilantes in Bhadarwah last night, saying “the frequency and severity of cow vigilante violence has been a dreadful hallmark of Modi-led central government”.

While expressing sympathies with the bereaved family, Omarsaid, “I urge the incumbent administration to initiate a time bound inquiryinto the incident and bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to book.

Curfew was clamped in Bhaderwah valley in Doda after membersof a community attacked a police station and damaged several vehicles inprotest against killing of a person who, they alleged, was targeted as he wasinvolved in cattle trade.

The Doda district administration, however, ruled out cowvigilantism as the reason behind the murder and said that some people weretrying to give communal colour to the incident to flare up the situation.

“Meantime, I also urge the people to maintain traditional camaraderieand brotherhood. In this hour of grief, I pray for strength to the bereaved tobear the loss,” he said.

Party vice president said that the “self anointed vigilantesknowing that there is no one to reprimand them are rampantly indulging in such gruesomeacts.”

“The utter laidback attitude of the incumbent central andstate government gives an impression that there is a tacit alliance between thetwo,” he said.

“The incident of Bhadarwah cannot be singled out; yesterdaya Muslim in Assam was coerced to eat pork. Had the incumbent central government properly reined in these elements, such incidents would not have been recurring time and again,” he said.
