Bhung cultivation goes unchecked in several areas of Ganderbal

Bhung cultivation in many areas of Ganderbal district is going on unchecked with locals complaining about the inaction of the government.

According to the locals, Bhung could be seen covering largepatches of land in many areas including Bamloora, Duderhama-Saloora, Rampora toSaloora, Wanipora, behind Qamaria park and boys higher secondary schoolGanderbal and other areas, adding that itis going on unbridled with lawenforcement agencies turning blind eye towards the issue.

   

The locals said that most of the areas within municipalitylimits are facing the issue as the authorities are not taking any steps.

Sheikh Junaid, a local resident told Greater Kashmir, “Thepresence of the bhung crop in these areas is giving easy access to the drugaddicts to use it. This is going to affect the youth and the society.”

Social activist Bilal Wani said that at a time when campaignhas been initiated to curb the drug menace the authorities should immediatelyact and start a drive against the cultivation of Bhung in Ganderbal district.

Executive Officer Municipal Committee Ganderbal Abdul Ahadtold Greater Kashmir that they will write to excise and police authorities todestroy the Bhung cultivation.
