Bijbehara town shuts on 3rd straight day to mourn militants’ killing

A complete shutdown was observed at Bijbehra town in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district for the third straight day on Saturday in the wake of killing of two militants on Thursday.

Sources said all shops and other commercial businessestablishments remained closed in the town and the traffic remained off theroads.

   

Deployment of the security forces was made at the sensitivepoints in the town to thwart any untoward incident.

Two Hizb ul Mujahideen militants were killed in a gunfightwith the security forces in a pre-dawn gunfight in Bijbehara on Thursday.

The slain were identified as Safder Amin Bhat (25), son ofMuhammad Amin of Zirpora Bijbehara and Burhan Ahmad Ganaie (25) of MaliporaHablish Kulgam.

Meanwhile, security forces Saturday launched a cordon andsearch operation at Aripal village in Tral township, Awantipora.

A police source said on “specific inputs” theoperations were launched.

“On Saturday morning, forces personnel comprising Jammu& Kashmir police, army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central ReservePolice Force (CRPF) cordoned off Aripal to conduct searches,” he said.

The operation however was over after no contacted was established with the militants, said an official.
