The Bharatiya Janata Party Thursday started a campaign to recruit Kashmiri women, claiming 40 joined the saffron party on the day.

The campaign was started by national vice-president of BJP Mahila Morcha, Rashim Sood who was joined by other party leaders including president of its state unit Rajni Sethi.

“Women folk are joining the party in Kashmir and we are happy,” Sood told reporters during a press conference here.

“Today 40 women joined the party here,” she said, adding on Wednesday 22 women from Anantnag joined the BJP.

Sood recalled the contribution of women party workers in the recently concluded municipal elections, appealing to them for larger participation in the party’s National Convention to register effective presence from J&K.

She also chaired a meeting of all state office bearers of J&K BJP Mahila Morcha asking them to make booth level working strong.

The BJP woman leader directed forming committees of prominent ladies at every single booth so that women’s welfare programmes reach up to every region by acquainting them with all the central and state government schemes.

Rajni Sethi said Mahila Morcha leaders were doing their best for uplifting the status of women in the society as well as for extending party ideology to the masses in Kashmir.

BJP leader and MLC, Surrinder Ambardar also spoke at the meeting, asking women to play their role.

“You can make people aware about menace of drug addiction and other social problems,” he said.
