BJP to send 150 cadres from J&K to Modi’s oath ceremony

About 150 leaders and activists of Bharatiya Janata Party from Jammu and Kashmir are expected to attend the oath ceremony of Prime Minister elect Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday.

Those tipped for attending the ceremony include all districtpresidents from Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh divisions.

   

“About 150 leaders and activists from J&K willparticipate in oath-taking ceremony of Modi ji,” BJP General Secretary, AshokKaul, told Greater Kashmir, adding office bearers will also attend.

From Kashmir, BJP state spokesman Altaf Thakur and statevice president Ali Muhammad Mir will be among the prominent ones attending oathceremony.

Kaul said that soon afterwards the saffron party would chalkout a strategy for the assembly elections in J&K.

“In June first week we will be meeting in Srinagar to chalkout strategy for assembly elections,” he said.

“We are hopeful of more gains in Kashmir.”

The party took a lead in Tral assembly segment of Kashmirduring the recently concluded parliamentary elections amid near total boycottin the constituency.

The BJP polled 323 votes in Tral followed by the NationalConference which secured 234 votes, Peoples Democratic Party 220 and theCongress 144 votes. The segment witnessed 1% polling.

Even as the overall votes for the BJP candidate for theconstituency were lower but the lead in a segment has made the party upbeat.

“It is an indicator of our achievement. Despite all thethreats, our cadre came out to vote in some pockets of Tral,” Sofi Yusuf,the vanquished BJP candidate for Anantnag seat said.

In total, Sofi Yusuf got 10,225 votes. Out of these 7,789were migrant and postal ballots. In all the 16 segments of Anantnag seat, hesecured only 2,436 votes.
