BOPEE scam: Court awards five-year jail term to ex-chairman

An anti-corruption court in Srinagar on Wednesday sentenced the former chairman of the Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) Mushtaq Ahmad Peer to five years in jail besides a fine of Rs one crore in a multi-crore cash for paper scam.

The alleged broker in the case Sajad Ahmad Bhat has also been awarded five years jail and Rs 50 lakh fine by the trial court.

   

The court also convicted 43 persons while seven persons were acquitted in connection with the case.

The students who have benefited in the scam have been sentenced to one-year imprisonment.

Peer was arrested on 23 November 2014 by the crime branch after the investigation revealed that he had allegedly sold the CET-2012 papers along with answer keys for Rs 60 lakhs.
