BOSE does it again: Evaluator leaves answers unchecked, student declared disqualified

The J&K Board of School Education (BOSE) doesn’t seem to have learnt any lessons from its past mistakes of evaluating answer scripts erroneously. The repeated mistakes have put the institution under scanner.

The JKBOSE recently declared the result of class 12thbi-annual exams and many students have been declared disqualified in one or twosubjects.

One of the students, Abid Naseer Malla, was asked tore-appear in English subject. Abid was given 22 marks in English subject whileas in rest of the subjects he has obtained good marks. Adil had opted fornon-medical stream at 10+2 level.

“This came as a shock for whole family when I saw good marksin all subjects and re-appear in English,” said Adil.

A few days later, Adil applied for Xerox copy of his answerscript.

After being provided with a Xerox copy, Adil was shocked tosee that four to five questions have been left unevaluated by the evaluatorhired by the JKBOSE.

Adil has applied for re-evaluation but the JKBOSE is yet todeclare the results, leaving him in the state of despair.

Earlier, while the result of his class 12th exam was yet todeclared, Adil appeared in J&K Common Entrance Test (JKCET) conducted by JKBOPEE in April 2019, under Roll number 22103590.

After the BOPEE declared the result, Adil was declared asqualified for B.Tech admission and was allotted a seat in electricalengineering stream of government college of engineering and technology atGanderbal.

But his happiness was short lived as the authorities inJKBOPEE have questioned his selection after he failed to produce the qualifyingcertificates of his class 12th exams.

“The last date for producing documents is over and Icouldn’t show my certificate due to delay by JKBOSE in declaring there-evaluation result,” Adil said, adding that he has been given mercy chance bythe BOPEE authorities to produce his certificate till next week or hisselection will be termed null and void.

“In case I fail to get my matter solved before that lastcounselling I won’t be able to get admission and BOPEE will cancel my admissionfrom the college,” he said.

He accused the JKBOSE of playing with the career of studentsbecause of flawed evaluation of question papers.

“I got my answer script evaluated by a senior lecturer inBaramulla and got pass marks in the subject. If all my attempted questions areevaluated by JKBOSE I will obtain more than 60 percent marks in the subject,”Adil said, adding that the JKBOSE should expedite the re-evaluation of subjectsso that the career of students is not ruined.

Greater Kashmir has earlier reported about various caseswherein students were declared ‘re-appear’ in one or two subjects because offlawed evaluation. The erroneous evaluation cost the students dearly inpursuing their academic career.

Joint Secretary in secrecy department of JKBOSE, Arif AhmadAkhoon said the candidate should visit JKBOSE office to get his grievanceaddressed.

“In case the questions have not been evaluated or ifthere is any error in counting of marks then we won’t wait for completion ofre-evaluation process. Such grievances are addressed instantly,” he said.
