Call back teachers working in offices: Government directs DSE Kashmir, Jammu

There seems to be no implementation of the government directions to relieve teachers attached with different offices and depute them to the schools.

Asgar Samoon, Principal Secretary, School education department has issued fresh directions to Directors of School Education (DSE), Kashmir and Jammu to relieve all teachers attached with the offices of Chief Educational Officers (CEOs) and Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) except those on COVID duties.

Earlier, a list of 196 teachers, masters and lecturers was compiled for their detachment from the offices of ZEOs and CEOs.

But complaints continue to pour in about poor implementation of the directions to send back the teachers to the schools.

The government has on several occasions in the past issued circular and instructions to the CEOs and ZEOs to relieve teachers from their offices. But most of the teachers continue to remain deployed in the offices on “verbal orders.”

“Some teachers continue to enjoy posting in these offices on the basis of verbal directions from the CEOs and the ZEOs. On papers, they are posted in schools but physically they work in the offices,” a teacher said, wishing not to be named.

Greater Kashmir recently carried a series of stories about failure of the department to fill the vacant non-teaching posts in the offices and relieve the teachers from these assignments.

“The irony is that a teacher is relieved from the office one day and the next day he is called back on verbal orders. These people manage their promotions and other services benefits while working in the offices rather than teaching in the schools,” said another teacher.

Director School Education Kashmir Muhammad Younis Malik said they have officially conveyed to the department that “almost every teachers deployed in the offices has been relieved.”

“If there is anyone still working in the offices, the issue will be looked into,” he said.
