Can’t surrender conscience for few monthly bucks: Kashmir IAS topper Shah Faesal after GoI order

Reacting over the Government of India order calling for action against him for “rapistan’ tweet, Kashmir IAS topper has said that he doesn’t fear losing his job “but he stands with what is dear to him”.

Faesal, who is currently on a study leave in the US, says he is not scared of losing a few monthly bucks. “This is just a job and I don’t think I will remain jobless in this great world of possibilities. What I stand for us is dearer to me than anything else,” he was quoted as saying by The Tribune.

On Tuesday, Faesal went public with a communication he had received from the state government questioning his social media post on “rape-culture.

“Love letter from my boss for my sarcastic tweet against rape-culture in South Asia,” he wrote while sharing the showcause notice. “The irony here is that service rules with a colonial spirit are invoked in a democratic India to stifle the freedom of conscience.”

In April, Faesal had put out the tweet: Patriarchy+Population+Illiteracy+Alcohol+Porn+Technology+Anarchy = Rapistan!

In the letter, the Commissioner/Secretary to the Government asked for a Departmental Action against him.

The letter said that “several references have been made” by Faesal on his Twitter account, “in which content is a prima face in contravention of the extant provision of All India Services (Conduct Rules)”.

Faesal said bureaucrats are “anonymous and opinionless”, however, he said the times are changing. “Old order is under challenge,” he told The Tribune.
