Security forces Thursday called off a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Baderhama-Zawoora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
An official said the CASO was launched by the Army’s 23 Para, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu & Kashmir Police in the village following a tip-off about the presence of militants on Wednesday.
He said the militants had opened fire on the forces, triggering a brief gunfight. “At least three militants are believed to have escaped in the darkness after the initial gun battle took place in the dense orchards,” he said.
The security forces, however, continued to surround the village until Thursday when the operation was called off.
Meanwhile, the internet service continued to remain suspended in Shopian district on second consecutive day on Thursday
