CASO called off in Shopian village

Security forces Thursday called off a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Baderhama-Zawoora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

An official said the CASO was launched by the Army’s 23Para, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu & KashmirPolice in the village following a tip-off about the presence of militants onWednesday.

   

He said the militants had opened fire on the forces,triggering a brief gunfight. “At least three militants are believed to haveescaped in the darkness after the initial gun battle took place in the denseorchards,” he said.

The security forces, however, continued to surround thevillage until Thursday when the operation was called off.

Meanwhile, the internet service continued to remainsuspended in Shopian district on second consecutive day on Thursday
