Centre amends J&K domicile law order

Amid an uproar by political parties, Government of India hasamended the recently issued domicile law for J&K reserving jobs for thelocal residents that would otherwise be open for people across India.

An order in this regard was issued by the Ministry of HomeAffairs late on Friday after political parties including JK Apni Partyexpressed reservations over the new domicile law for the Union Territory ofJammu and Kashmir.

   

On Tuesday, the government of India redefined domicile  J&K wherein any Indian citizen havingbeen residing in the erstwhile J&K state for the last 15 years or whopassed the class 10th and 12th examinations from a J&K school, would bedeemed to be a domicile.

Several other officers and officials working in differentcentral government offices would also be conditionally eligible for a J&Kdomicile under the new law.  However, theMHA’s order has done away with the special provisions for obtaining a domicile.
