Chenab Valley residents deprived of development: Sagar

National Conference General Secretary, Ali Muhammad Sagar, Friday decried “lack of basic civic facilities” in Chenab region, saying it deflates the claims of the incumbent administration on equitable development of the state.

While concluding the weeklong tour of Chenab Valley, Sagarclaimed that the people living in the hilly region have been left to fend forthemselves. “The area is rich in natural resources and minerals. But when itcomes to providing benefits of these resources to the locals, successivegovernments after 2015 have miserably failed.”

“The area faces hours of power cuts. The region lags ineducation, health, road infrastructure and other sectors. Nothing substantialwas done to give impetus to the development prospects,” he added. “Thegovernance deficit during the past few years has accumulated the problems ofthe people in the region.” The General Secretary claimed that the localpopulace was feeling threatened by politics of hate and communal divide. “Thepeople of all the three regions and faiths are genuinely concerned at theattempts being made to generate regional divide and engineer communalpolarization for ulterior political motives,” he said.

Sagar, while underscoring the need of forging unity, said,”National Conference has always believed in strengthening amity and brotherhoodin the state. There are forces working overtime to destabilize the pluralisticstability of the state.”
