A court here on Thursday sentenced a man to a rigorous imprisonment of one year besides a simple imprisonment of one more year in a Cheque Bounce Case.
The Court of 1st Additional Civil judge, Srinagar (Judicial Magistrate ) Abdul Bari sentenced Bilal Ahmad Wani of Buchwara Dalgate Srinagar to one year rigorous imprisonment and one year simple imprisonment.
The Court also directed Wani to pay within a month Rs 12 lakhs and 12 thousand as compensation to the complainant which is double the amount against which the cheque was issued but bounced.
Proprietor of Shahi General Store, Ashiq Hussain, had filed the complaint against Wani under section 138 of Negotiable instrument Act.
While convicting the accused, the court observed that such sentence is passed so as it serves “deterrence” to other likeminded criminals.
The accused was sent to central jail Srinagar for undergoing the sentence forthwith.
